After graduation from Salford University with an Engineering Degree, Tony worked for British Aerospace as a Material and Process Engineer providing technical support to a number of military and civilian projects before becoming a Chartered Engineer in 1993. He was seconded to the Training Department to work as a Facilitator where he wrote and delivered a simulation exercise designed to teach engineers how to use the Goal Directed Project Management (GDPM) planning tool bought in by BAe. The simulation was designed following feedback from the Customer Support Department as they felt the original training programme was too theoretical and left Engineers with little idea how GDPM actually worked. This experience has reinforced Tony’s early experience in delivering practical and pragmatic training.
In 1994 Tony trained as a teacher and spent the next 22 years teaching Physics in three schools to 11-18 year olds. During this time, he helped to write 9 x Key Stage 3 (11-14) schemes of work, 9 x KS4 (14-16) schemes of work, 3 BTech (11-16) and 3 A level schemes of work. He helped to deliver INSET training to teachers, became a qualified first aider, a Hill and Moorland Leader and a D of E Expedition Assessor (Bronze, Silver and Gold level). During this time Tony renewed his love of Expeditions and Hillwalking.
For the past 15 years Tony has been a Task Leader for the highly successful Scitech Science Summer Schools. Leading a team of 5 delivering one day workshops on areas like Space, Ophthalmics, Crash Tech, Sound, Escape to 6-14 year olds Tony used his considerable experience to deliver exciting and informative experiences to young Scientists and help new junior staff to develop their presentation skills. Indeed in 2017, 3 of the 5 Task Leaders have previously worked as Senior Assistants for Tony.
